'My Boyfriend Proposed To Me As A Prank - I've Never Felt So Humiliated'

A woman was devastated after her boyfriend of five years publicly proposed to her - only to then tell her it was all a joke.

Pranks can be a laugh when they're lighthearted and everyone involved has a good time with them, but they can sometimes go too far, and one woman felt the brunt of it when her boyfriend pulled a cruel joke on her.

The woman took to Reddit to explain that she felt heartbroken after he pulled the stunt in a busy restaurant after years of dating.

She said that apart from his 'prankster' antics, she considered their relationship to be "healthy and stable".

The woman said in a Reddit post: "My boyfriend, Andrew, has always been a prankster and makes jokes with me all the time. I do it to him too but today he took it way too far."

He planned out an elaborate surprise day out for both of them that even involved an early wake time to go to a couple's spa day.

She added: "I was pretty surprised because it wasn't a special day or anything, but I was all in for it. At the spa, he told me how he wanted to go to a fancy restaurant after we were done and that he was paying.

"Of course, I agreed as we hadn't been out together in a long time. We then got to the restaurant, we had a beautiful and romantic dinner and just a nice time in general. We were talking about a house we were planning to move into and chitchatted about other stuff too."

Forty minutes into dinner, Andrew got on one knee and pulled out a box from his pocket. She said: "My heart stopped beating. I hadn't even predicted this. We have never talked about proposals before but I also thought it was a great time now.

"He did a speech about how I was the most beautiful girl in the world and how he wanted to live with me forever and ended with 'Will you marry me, princess?' Of course, I said yes!"

But seconds later, Andrew burst into fits of laughter as he opened the box to reveal a piece of paper reading, "You've been pranked!"

The woman was horrified and slapped Andrew before breaking down into tears. She broke up with him and ran out of the restaurant.

Adding to her post, she asked for advice on how to deal with the situation. She said: "I am now sitting in my bed crying and I don't know what to do. He's been texting and calling me but I haven't responded because I feel so sad, betrayed, and mostly angry. I thought this was going to be one of the best days of my life. What should I do?"

People on Reddit were unanimously on the woman's side as they agreed her boyfriend had taken things too far.

"I can't imagine doing that in a restaurant full of people and all of them watching that," one said. "To sit and watch one person destroy another like that, it's like watching a train wreck. He did it in a fancy restaurant and having worked in one I certainly hope the manager made it clear after paying he wasn't welcome back. What is it with these grown men thinking these outrageously hurtful pranks are ok? Who raised them?"

Another user added: "If she takes him back there will be another prank of him in bed with some other woman later." A third succinctly said: "This wasn't a prank. It was a humiliation."

My Husband Played A Cruel Prank On Me During Our Wedding So I'm Divorcing Him - This Is The Red Flag I Ignored For Months

A bride has been criticised for her harsh decision to file for divorce two days after her wedding because her husband pushed her into the cake - but some think she dodged a bullet.

Rachel was over the moon and couldn't wait to marry the love of her life after four years of being together, but her fiancĂ© began to exhibit some strange behaviour in the months leading up to the big day.

She revealed that Jake started watching prank videos online of brides being humiliated.

'I told him straight away that I didn't want that at our wedding. He just laughed and said that he wasn't planning anything. I thought that was the end of it but I kept catching him making strange arrangements with his friends,' she shared on Reddit.

Rachel should've realised something was terribly wrong when her husband suddenly wanted to organise the cake and photographer - but she thought he was just excited to help out.

A gut feeling made her remind the man that she'd 'immediately break up with him' if he pulled a prank on the wedding day.

'Everything went smoothly until the cake cutting. The whole room watched as I made the first cut and the photographer stood in front of us with camera in hand.

'Suddenly I felt a hand on the back of my head, pushing me face first into the cake. Not only my make-up but the whole wedding dress was ruined and the whole room laughed, my husband the loudest.'

Rachel was humiliated and only felt worse when Jake claimed the image of her covered in cake was now their 'official wedding photo'.

She slapped her husband in front of everyone and ran off to the bathroom in tears.

In a twist of fate, she revealed: 'Karma didn't take long to arrive and came in the form of Jake's own brother.'

The bride shared that Jake's brother made him apologise for his actions and the reception was cut short - the festivities ruined by the drama.

Rachel was shocked to discover that her husband was a bully growing up and took pleasure in hurting other people - a fact he had hidden from her during their relationship.

'His brother told me that Jake was a bad person and took every opportunity to humiliate him as kids,' Rachel said.

'I decided to separate from him and file for divorce. Jake told me not to do that because it was just a harmless prank. I was spammed by both his family and mine that it would be ridiculous to end our marriage over this.

'But i see it differently - if he does something like this to me, despite multiple requests not to do it, even after promising he wouldn't do it, then i can't trust him.

'No matter what he promises me, this situation can be projected onto so many worse situations where it would be important for me to be able to trust him.'

A few praised her for recognising the glaring red flag and leaving her husband.

'You're absolutely doing the right thing. Your ex has spent his whole life bullying his brother and he figured once you were married he had you locked in as his next victim,' one said.

'Your groom face planted you and ruined the dress. There is no coming back from that. It was a full on humiliation. He pointed, laughed at you, and cheered everyone else to do the same,' another said.

But some claimed she was being 'dramatic' for no reason.

'It was just some cake - it's not a big deal,' a man wrote.

'I think it's cute if both parties smash a little cake in each others face,' another added.

Harry Goodwin was facing Stewart Anderson in the the first singles semi-final match when the porn noises were heard on a loudspeaker.

The crowd saw the funny side of it as they broke down in laughter while the BBC commentator played it down as a 'sound issue'.

He said: 'Well, we have a problem somewhere but hopefully it will get sorted out pretty quickly. Sounds like a sound issue, excuse the punt.'

Goodwin was unable to keep a straight face as he smirked almost immediately and looked around to see where the noise was coming from.

The 'sex noise' prank has taken place on a number occasions over the past years, most notably during a live broadcast of a FA Cup match last year.

During the BBC's coverage of Wolves vs Liverpool in January 2023, Gary lineker and pundits were left embarrassed as the noise disrupted them in the studio for over 10 minutes.

Youtuber Daniel Jarvis, from Gravesend, Kent, then claimed responsibility for the porn noises though it was not known how he got access.

The same prankster got up to his tricks once again last month when sex noises interrupted the draw for Euro 2024.

Gary Lineker could not hide his embarrassment at the porn noises coming from the studio

Former Manchester City star David Silva, and much of the audience, were left stunned after the sounds began to play, with everyone seemingly powerless to stop them.

And in November 2017, BBC's Political correspondent at the time Emma Vardy was interrupted by the racy audio as she reported live on Brexit.

It led to suggestions that the BreX-rated noises beamed to television screens across the nation could have been caused by a pair of 'remoaners'.
