LeBron James Nike Commercial Parody: Four-star WR Commits To UCLA In Recreation Of Lakers Star's Iconic Ad - Sporting News
What was once old, is now new again. And an ad once fit for a king is hoping to find the next big thing.
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and no one should be more flattered than LeBron James after seeing the best commitment video arguably ever videoed.
With pool days in short supply as the end of summer nears, four-star wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer traded in the boring folding table for a picturesque backyard oasis. Set in a scene that includes a landscape reminiscent of the tropics, the No. 196 overall player in the 2024 class — according to 247 Sports — went for an upgrade over the ad that first aired in 2006.

He, like James, plays all the characters in the video — from athlete to old man and everything in between.
But don't worry. There is still all the stuff that adds intrigue to traditional commitment announcements. Stanford, Michigan State, California, Washington and Oklahoma all make cameos before Gilmer dives into the pool to reveal UCLA as the chosen school.
If there was any doubt, he also confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter.
And the newest UCLA commit also showed his business savvy, weaving in two commercials with some key product placement changes. Gilmer subs in Powerade for lemonade, sticking with the blue flavor and highlighting his good judgment. Instead of "pops" threatening to get out of his seat, the receiver pauses to showcase Invisalign.
This commercial parody isn't Gilmer's only connection to the James family. He attends Sierra Canyon in California, the same school from which James' son, Bronny, just graduated.

From flip phones to iPhones and messy hair to TikTok lighting — fans of 2000's nostalgia, LeBron James, old-school advertising or even just UCLA football — this is for you.
The original Nike ad from James aired beginning in 2006, a far cry from the blandness of modern commercials. As the saying goes, "they don't make them like they used to."
LOOK: Parody Of Nike LeBron Ad Taunts About Steph Curry's Greatness
This completely-fake ad started making the rounds on social media Monday, first being discussed as an official Under Armour ad in response to the Nike ad for LeBron James after the Finals. Of course, Under Armour wouldn't do anything so brash, but people ate it up anyway.
Even after it became clear that Under Armour didn't make it, and it was just an attempt at mocking James mostly, because people love to do that, it still has generated a lot of buzz on social media. Here's the ad, which is a pretty spot-on parody of the original.
I mean, the ad's right, in that Curry did not get fatigued because he had a better team around him. And he did power through the Western Conference, because he had a better team around him. And he did win MVP in the regular season, and deserved it. But the excuses stuff is nonsense. James didn't make any excuses after the loss. He talked about from very early on this year not to expect the Cavaliers to win the title. There's enough to criticize James for throughout his career without downing the guy after dropping multiple 40-point triple-doubles on a short-handed team vs. A juggernaut.
To make the Finals, and to honestly push Golden State as far as the Cavaliers did is a testament to James as a player.
It's a funny meme for a moment, but the actual message rings pretty hollow.
You'll Feel Seen By This 'SNL' Parody Of What You Actually Do In Leggings - PEDESTRIAN.TV
We Know What You Did Last Saturday.
We know, because we did it too.
You woke up, scrolled through Instagram, saw your annoying hot friend had uploaded an Instastory doing the Bondi to Bronte and decided you'd throw on your activewear and go for a sweat yourself.
But first: coffee! You went to a cafe, decided you needed some brunch, [insert tired joke about smashed avo here], and before you knew it, it was 2pm and you were positively exhausted. Cue couch, Netflix, wine. (The natural variety, of course.)
Saturday Night Live knows you did this too. That's why we feel personally attacked by their bang-on their Nike ad parody that debuted this weekend.
The Nike 'Pro-Chiller' legging is "designed for endurance, but used for what most women actually do in leggings," which we don't need to tell you is jack shit.
"'Cause let's get real," starts Kate McKinnon's character, with the intensity of a professional athlete cum life coach. "Leggings can be pants, pyjamas and a napkin.":
The leggings can even withstand "190 degrees of hot lap" that come with the ol' leggings, blanket and laptop set up. They call it the "couch panini" and fuck I'm hungry.
We couuuuuuld be biased since they're Aussies, but no one, not even SNL, can top the Van Vuuren Bros' OG activewear parody:
Activewear, activewear, concluding this story in my activewear.
